Q - What camera did you use for Cameras and Coffee?
A. -I used my Nikon L35AF. My first film point and shoot. I love this thing
Q. How long have you been taking photos?
A. I mark my start of taking photos as when I started taking film photos, which was in 2021. I would say that’s when I started putting forth some effort to take my camera with me if I left the house and capture the photos I was seeing out in the world.
Q. Why did you start photography?
A. I’ve studied video/film production, and photography and videography have a natural connection. I gravitated toward film photography not only because of the look of the photos but because it’s something I can do by myself easily. Plus, I’m an impatient person, and photography can produce a more immediate product, rather than a song or a painting that you could work with forever. A photo, to me, is what it is when you take it. On a more personal level, it was a great reason for me to start engaging with nightlife and being more social after I stopped drinking alcohol.
Q. What motivates you when it comes to photography?
A. People doing dope shit. Things as they are. Colors. Shapes. The possibility of remembering something the way I saw it at that time and sharing that with others. I love sending people the photos I take of them. They should have them.
Q. Describe your photography style.
A. I’m like one punch man. I’m a photographer for fun. My style is in the moment, lucky if it works out, hopefully, I had an extra roll of film in my bag, chaos. I often think of Ispy books when I look at my photos. I like to show things in context. I’d like to explore more stylized, curated photos, but for now, this is where I’m at.
Q. Explain your Instagram name.
A. In 8th grade my friend started calling me gene, then gene pool. Thus, Jeenpool was born.
Q. What are your photo goals for the next year?
A. I really would love to put out a book or convince a place to hang my photos on their walls for a period of time. I’d love to see some of them printed big. We’ll see.
