Scott: How long have you been riding your bike?
Jason: That’s a tough question. I mean I’ve been riding bikes since I was a kid. E-bikes however I started riding about 4 years ago now.
Scott: Explain RiDetroit and why did you create RiDetroit?
Jason: RiDetroit is my eBike and walking tour company. It came from the fact that over the years of making all the routes for Slow Roll. I was learning so much that I wanted to be able to pass it along to others. I also love riding bikes with people so why not do it for a living?
Scott: Why is riding your bike relaxing?
Jason: It’s the true connection to the world from a transportation standpoint point. There’s no better way to start the day than with an eBike ride to connect you to everything including the weather and people.
Scott: What was a roadblock in your journey and how did you overcome this roadblock?
Jason: I guess for me it would’ve been leaving SR. I don’t really call it a roadblock. More of a fork in the road. Leaving something I started and built to go out into the unknown was a bit of a bump but in reality, it needed to happen for me to grow. I was stuck in a place. Stagnant and complacent with what I had. That move showed me there’s more to my journey. My gift to bring people together is bigger than riding in a circle. It allowed me to get sober and focus on the bigger picture. The global message of community and change is my new mission statement.
Scott: Who is your role model?
Jason: Devin Scillian (Detroit television journalist). He and I have worked together and been friends for over 20 years. I’ve always admired his love for his craft and his dedication to family. I’ve stolen many tv attributes from him lol.
Scott: What are your goals for the next year?
Jason: Continue to grow the brand and leverage partnerships. The last couple years have been about survival. Now it’s time to go into overdrive. I have so many ideas I want to bring to fruition. I really want to get more involved in the tourism industry in Detroit. I touch a lot of visitors nationally and internationally through my airbnb experiences. RiDetroit needs to be recognized as a major entity in the tourism industry.
Scott: One positive thing about yourself?
Jason: I give everyone a fair chance no matter the social background.
